Love this article, Felice. I was at home when the earthquake hit, but had finished my practice about 90 minutes before--one of my first thoughts was what it would be like to be in a yoga class when an earthquake hits. Which, I guess, is a more...positive...pondering than my usual "I'm so glad I'm not in a home depot." ;)

Hey Claire!

Great suggestion! I've already found a modified version of the sun salutation that I think I can manage! http://audioyoga.com/AY4/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=230&Itemid=78

The only one that seems too hard for me now is the lunge...

Hi Laura,
I am a newly certified Forrest yoga instructor in Chicago who volunteered to help with Yoga Month and promoting this awesome event in Chicago as well. One of the best ways to get your heart rate going, and therefore burn some calories in a yoga practice is to repeat sun salutations. A classical sun salutation has you moving from mountain pose, to forward fold, to lunge, to plank, to chataranga, to cobra, to downdog, to lunge, to forward fold and returning to mountain pose. 10 asanas linked by inhales and exhales. Try 5-10 of this series in a row every morning and you will burn serious calories and gain lots of strength! Namaste
